So I’m learning how to drive in TAIPEI, TAIWAN of all places. And if you’ve ever seen the streets of Taipei, you’d probably urge every examiner in California to refuse me a license, or that I should fear for my life and safety. But in Taiwan, they learn how to drive on closed courses… which probably explains why they’re such crappy drivers on the real road.
And now for a music list, a la Ken, just ’cause it looks so fun. These 10 songs, in no particular order, are the songs that I’ve been listening to pretty often lately. And if you don’t realize, a lot of the English songs were featured on America’s Best Dance Crew Season 3.
Chris Brown - Forever
It’s like I’ve waited my whole life for this one night
So I first heard this song when Jonathan made such a lovely lipsync video on Facebook, and instantly, I fell in love. And while I usually don’t listen to Chris Brown (Wall to Wall was the last straw for me), Forever was kind of… different. A good different.
Nas - Hero ft. Keri Hilson
Hate him or love him for the same reason
If it weren’t for Keri Hilson’s voice subduing the whole… gangsta vibe of this song, if you will, I probably wouldn’t have liked Hero so much. But I have to admit while I don’t like rap very much, Nas has a voice that doesn’t annoy and doesn’t induce headaches, so for me to like this song is a feat in itself.
Kevin Rudolph - Let It Rock ft. Lil Wayne
What is done in vain, truth is hard to swallow
I first heard this song at a shopping centre somewhere and I loved the melody and the chorus, and was so excited when Quest used it for their Fit Test Challenge routine, but WHY Lil Wayne’s part, WHY?? Argh. I don’t think I can describe just how annoying his voice is. I usually skip to the next song once his part comes in, which is a shame because I really do like Let It Rock for the most part.
Usher - Bad Girl
So close I’m smellin’ like your perfume
Okay, this is pretty old. Or super old. Depends on how you perceive how long ago 2005 is. But anywho, it’s actually one of my favourite songs on the Confessions album, and I found myself listening to it more and more. I bought the CD a few months ago with Judith at a Gramophone warehouse sale for like, S$3? Which is roughly US$2. Say it with me. Cheap.
Lady GaGa - Just Dance ft. Akon & Colby O’Donis
Control your poison babe, roses have thorns they say
This song has an awesome beat, awesome melody, and a really catchy chorus, which is what Lady GaGa’s known for. And I guess what with the current electronica craze in Korea, it prepared me a lot for this song, and it instantly became my favourite. Until…
Lady GaGa - Poker Face
And after he’s been hooked, I’ll play the one that’s on his heart
… I heard Poker Face. I actually can’t quite figure out why I like Poker Face more than Just Dance, but I just do. And I loved how the remaining 3 crews had to dance to it in the Hip Hop Decathlon.
NeYo - Closer
And I just can’t bring myself away, but I don’t want to escape, I just can’t stop
NeYo’s songs are always super catchy, and Closer is definitely not an exception. I just think the music video’s kind of lame, with all the words and stuff. But even still, I catch myself singing along to this all the time it plays.
LMFAO - I’m In Miami Bitch
When I step on the scene, y’all know me
STUPIDEST. SONG. EVER. But oh-so-addicting.
Kanye West - Love Lockdown
No more wasting time, you can’t wait for life
This song was introduced to me because of ABDC’s Hip Hop Decathlon. I usually don’t ever listen to Kanye West, but this song was too catchy for me not to like. The song’s kind of mellow for the most part, except for the chorus, where the drum beat is awesome.
태양 Taeyang - 나만 바라봐 Look Only at Me
Today I wipe you away from my life again
There’s a reason why I put this last and that’s because it’s my all-time favourite song. Currently. Actually, it’s kind of hard to decide which of Taeyang’s songs I like best since his entire mini-album, Hot (very appropriate title, by the way), is so amazing. It’s a story in itself, and each track illustrates the emotional ups and downs a couple goes through from the passion they feel for each other at the beginning, to selfishness which leads to cheating, to realization, to apology, to reconcilation. But Look Only at Me’s music video was also really awesome. And it’s also my Korean cousin’s ringtone!

GREETINGS FROM THE MOTHERLAND. It’s freakin’ cold here in Taipei, and another cold front’s coming in. Supposedly it’s gonna drop down to 53.6°F/12°C this weekend. I haven’t experienced winter since… 2007 when I was in Taipei for Christmas. Darn you, tropical Singapore! Okay well it’s actually spring in Taiwan now, isn’t it?
So I haven’t actually done anything yet, since I’ve just been in the hospital taking care of my dad, but once he’s released, I feel like reperming my hair. Aye? Nay? Something to make up for the shitty highlights, which– Oh, that’s right. I highlighted my hair! Like, a week ago? I don’t know if it’s just because I haven’t had highlights since I was 13 or I just don’t look good in them, but I haven’t gotten used to them yet. Guess that means I’ll just stick with dying my hair completely from now on.
And this hospital has wireless internet! So I’m sleeping over again. Surprisingly, the rock-hard hospital guest couch thing is actually softer than Sean’s rock-hard bed.
Things to do while on the most awesome island on earth:
1. Fix the shitty hair
2. EAT
3. Shop
4. Learn how to drive on the left side of the car/right side of the road
5. Perfect my Chinese (not gonna happen)
Oh. Did I mention I’m here for a month?

빅뱅 (Big Bang) - Remember
It makes question myself, “What did I get into?”
So Christmas day started out with me actually waking up before noon. The entire family went to the airport to see my grandfather off ’cause he was going to Hong Kong. Yeah, my family is sooo festive. His flight got delayed so we got to shop around Terminal 3, which is really spacious and shiny, but actually pretty ugly. Then Vinnie and I got to go inside this Candy House there because we spent over a certain amount. The guy at the door told us, “You have two minutes to fill up this tumbler with candy.” And I was thinking like, what the hell is a tumbler? Can’t they just call it a cup?
So afterwards, they wanted to go shopping at Vivo. I wasn’t in the mood to shop. I know, shocking! So I just walked around the entire afternoon dodging the huge throngs of rabid women at Mango. Outside the fitting room was this wall where all these men were leaning against. I wish I got a picture of that. So I didn’t get anything, which is typical because I never actually get any presents on Christmas day itself. Oh wait, I lie. I got a pack of Double A paper.
Vinnie bought this dress, but in a dark purple. It was surprising since she never finds anything she likes while she’s here.
So anyway, Christmas was fun. Even my baby got something! But he’s going to rip that thing apart in no time. He’s already ripped off the white ball on Santa’s hat.
Okay, it’s like, 4:40 am and I’m not done packing yet. I’m going to Indonesia for New Years! Happy New Year in advance. In the (supposed) words of my cousin Kevin, I hope you all had an…

Today, we went to Raffles City so Vinnie and I decided to slay boredom by trying on gowns from Coast. We were in a purple-y mood today. And I swear my shot was candid.
Then my mom suddenly had the brilliant idea to go for high tea at the Equinox. Really pretty view from the 70th storey.

The Brothers Grimm are apparently grim for a reason. I just re-read Aschenputtel, more popularly known as Cinderella. Their version is void of fairy godmothers and human-turning rats. Here’s an excerpt:
